Now known as a prominent period of time, the COVID-19 Pandemic has left a lingering impact on the world today. In the year 2020, many schools all around the globe were forcefully shut down in order to contain the spread of the virus. Under those circumstances, both teachers and students were forced to transition towards a new module of learning known as “distance learning.” This extension of education was conducted through the use of various CMS programs. One program that rose to popularity is known as Google Classrooms.
This platform is known for its dependability during the pandemic and has been selected as the unrivaled site for distance learning. As an educator that was forced to take on the role of online teaching for the past two years, I valued the features of the site. For starters, the paperless assignments were convenient as it supported contactless submissions and promoted flexibility for adjustments. In addition, another feature that I appreciated was the ability to efficiently grade assignments and provide feedback. I believe that this is an important attribute that allows students to monitor their progress and to maintain social skills despite the differing circumstances.
On the contrary, there have been multiple improvements and additives since the last time I used Google Classrooms. For instance, I discovered that the site now offers a program titled “practice sets.” Similar to my previous statement, students rely on immediate feedback to remain engaged and learn more effectively. Practice Sets enables teachers to create digital interactive assignments. As students complete their work, they are able to receive help when needed. Additionally, teachers are able to receive immediate notifications to track student performance. To illustrate the mechanics, as educators create assignments, using adaptive learning technology, the software identifies relevant learning skills for each question and identifies hints and resources to use for further assistance. With this information, teachers are able to receive the level of understanding per student and are able to adjust their lessons to support learner needs.
After reviewing this information, I felt amazed and proud at how technology has evolved for the benefit of students. I saw many characteristics that I am looking forward to applying when I get the chance to do so. I recall Google Classrooms being an excellent platform to maintain learner growth during the closure of schools and with the recent updates, I hope to create a Google Classrooms that my students can use today. Overall, Google Classrooms is an effective and dependable Internet tool that supports learner growth and development.
