TeacherTube is Awesome!
In order to maintain interest and engagement, many teachers have relied on resources, such as videos, to supplement learning inside the classroom. However, “child-appropriate” videos may be difficult to locate on most streaming sites. In order to eradicate this challenge, TeacherTube was created in 2007 with the goal of “providing an online community for sharing instructional videos.”
Similar to YouTube, account holders are able to upload videos. However, since TeacherTube is strictly for educational purposes, the videos uploaded must be relevant to learning. In addition, viewers are able to comment, rate videos, and even flag inappropriate videos in order to maintain safety. Since its development in 2007, TeacherTube has adapted to modern times and transitioned to a more innovative approach with its contents. Today, many educators around the globe are able to communicate with one another and share classroom techniques and ideas at a click of a button. Additionally, many of the videos uploaded may be used for assignments on various LMS platforms to encourage higher-level thinking.
Altogether, TeacherTube is a simple and organized platform that benefits both teachers and students. It is a free community that supports learning and promotes the idea that learning can be done beyond a textbook. At the same time, while browsing the website, I noticed that many of the categories possess a limited amount of videos. I firmly believe that bringing awareness to this site and growing the audience, will promote an expansion of content. Generally speaking, TeacherTube is a serviceable website for both educators and parents that is easily accessible. This platform offers a variety of educational media such as video and audio aids, therefore providing all students with interactive learning experiences.
